Festival of Frugality #249: The Weary Traveler Edition

Welcome to the 249th edition of the Festival of Frugality.  This is my first time hosting this particular festival, which is designed to highlight personal finance articles that encourage frugality.  I’ve chosen the fifteen articles below as this week’s best articles.

As you read through the articles, think about all of the times you’ve been the ‘weary’ traveler.  It sure seems that there are more and more things designed to make traveling less fun and certainly less frugal.  Still, there are ways to combat travel weariness, and I’ve highlighted just a few within the article.

Onto the articles!

Craig Ford presents 10 Ways to Save Money On Gas posted at Money Help For Christians.

Neal Frankle presents Cheap Term Life Insurance ? What To Watch Out For posted at Wealth Pilgrim.

Airline fees are the most talked about charge added to traveling in years.  Pack lightly, and even consider shipping your bags to your destination beforehand as a possible money saving option.

Companies change the rules all the time.  From flights delayed or canceled to car reservations that end up not having a car available, things can change.  Prepare by printing out all of your agreement information and keeping it with you, and always have a backup option planned out as a ‘just in case’ to reduce the impact of potential changes.

Lauren presents The Most Fiscally Irresponsible Song Lyrics posted at Richly Reasonable.

Fellow airline passengers or neighboring hotel room guests can be a game changer in any trip.  From the airline seatmate who pounds back a couple too many drinks or hasn’t showered in days to the hotel guest who decides to hold a party, your nerves can get frayed quickly.  In many cases, packing a set of earphones / earplugs as well as your patience, is your best bet to happy travels!

freefrombroke presents 5 Simple Steps To Save On Food Shopping posted at Free From Broke.

Paul Williams presents Living in Poverty: What Would It Look Like? posted at Provident Planning.

PT presents 10 Cheap and Creative Halloween Costumes for 2010 posted at PT Money.

vh presents Managing a Variable Income: A bouquet of bank accounts posted at Funny about Money.

I appreciate you taking the time to check out this week’s carnival and hope you found at least one or two frugal tips or thoughts.    Next week’s edition of the Festival of Frugality will be hosted by Before You Invest, so get your articles submitted to be included!
