Something has happened to me recently that has chilled me to the bone. It troubles me. It disturbs me. It makes me question whether I’ve been possessed.
What is this, you ask?
I’ll tell you:
I’ve stopped hating Taylor Swift.
Allow me to explain.
Since she first burst onto the scene, Taylor Swift leaped to the top of famous people that annoy me. I thought her music was too bubblegum and all she did was sing about wanting to steal other people’s boyfriends. I was more old school in some of my musical tastes.
I got so good that when driving in the car, I could recognize one of her songs and change the station within two measures of the song starting.
Didn’t matter what the song was. Didn’t matter if I was even paying attention to the radio or not…flicking the button when one of her songs came on was as instinctive to me as pulling your hand away after touching a hot pot. I had hating her music down to an art.
And, I was proud of it.
Then, a couple of weeks ago, just like that, it was gone.
One of her songs came on the radio and….I didn’t change it.
I immediately recognized this as abnormal behavior. Several thoughts passed through my head:
Am I tired? No, I’ve been getting pretty good sleep lately.
Am I drunk? No, it was the middle of the day and I was driving my family around. Definitely hadn’t consumed any alcohol.
Am I possessed? I don’t know what possession feels like but I felt in control of everything else.
Am I on anything else? Nope. See above.
What is happening?
I figured it was just an abnormal response, but the next time a song came on, it also stayed on. A couple of days later I was driving to work and heard a brand new song by some hip-hop artist that she was in…and I didn’t change it then either. In fact, two thoughts popped into my head simultaneously: “That’s Taylor Swift” and “This isn’t bad.”
Scary stuff, huh?
I won’t go as far as to say that I like her music….but the fact that I can now tolerate it, and that this happened out of the blue, this is bone chilling to me. And that it happened just like that.
Am I just getting soft or am I in real trouble here?

Taylor Swift won’t kill you. I don’t love her stuff either but there is many worse songs playing on the radio. Who knows, maybe this will make you less distracted while driving

Very true, less reaching over and changing the channel.
I vote that you’re both soft and in real trouble! Man I still can’t stand Taylor Swift, everything about her music and everything I hear about her. Bleck! But I will say this, it’s always good to give people anohter chance and keep your mind (or ears) open. So good job on being open minded.

It just happened out of the blue so watch out!
This is a slippery slope you’re on… next thing you know, you’ll have a Ke$ha poster on your wall!

Ke$ha has always entertained me, because her music makes me laugh. But no posters. I find her very physically unattractive .
I doubt that liking Taylor Swift is anything to worry about. I did that with one of Miley Cyrus’s songs… I heard it on the radio, like it somewhat, then realized it was sung by her and got disgusted at myself.
But when you said Taylor Swift, it reminded me of the Meme episode of South Park. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPEJGQj4Z50
I’m not a Miley Cyrus fan either and used to wish deafness upon myself back when that Party in the USA song was wildly popular.
What’s wrong with Taylor Swift? Lol.. Seriously though, she may not be a lyrical artist but at least she’s not a lyrical landfill, like many other “artists” out there. Plus, she is pretty wholesome.

I think what used to bother me is that two out of every three songs were her pining over some guy that she wanted who already had a girlfriend. Maybe she’s expended her horizons to where it doesn’t bother me. And you’re right, she’s pretty level headed as far as it goes. So far, anyways
The more you turn to positive thoughts, the happier you’ll be! So, letting go of the hate/distaste/rage/whatever toward a stranger is a good first step.

Good point, being positive is that much easier than being negative.
Well she is certainly no Justin Bieber . LOL
Haha, I’ve never cared for him either. Never had the dislike, just one of those where I could probably hear his song and then forget I heard it 15 seconds after it was done.
Get thee to a shrink, STAT! Or at least get your ears rechecked. That chick is always crying over someone and crying about something. Can’t take it.
Definitely a lot of ‘angst’ that’s for sure!
