We Made It!

My goal each year is to avoid turning the furnace on until October 1st.  I don’t know why I came up with this goal, probably because it’s a nice easy date to remember and it usually is within a couple of weeks of the weather turning to require the heat to be turned on in the house.

As you can see, from the title of this post, we made it!

I’m pretty sure in most years past I haven’t made it, and there were a couple of days in the past two weeks that brought us close, but we stuck it out.

It will, however, not go too much further.  The temps are going to the low 40’s and even to the 30’s, so victory will be short lived.  Still, it’s pretty cool, I’d say.

Happy weekend!

  1. @Sandy – We live in the beautiful state of Michigan where it is often possible to run the A/C and the heat in the same 24-hour period.

  2. I clicked on your "about me" section to see where you lived. We're still running the AC in Savannah, GA. This weekend we're getting a "cool spell" and the highs are supposed to be in the upper 70s and I think it's time to get out the kids' jeans! =)

Seriously…last February it snowed on Valentine's Day (first time in 10 years here) and one week later we had a picnic in the park with people sunbathing around us. We have about 1 month of "winter" here.

    Congrats on your success though!

  3. We have turned ours on twice, for an hour or so, just to get the chill off the house (it was reading 62). Congrats on your success!

Oh, and we are in the Northeast…for what it is worth.

  4. Good job! We made it to November 1 two years ago — but we were a bit chilly for the trouble! Also, no kids, so we only tortured ourselves. It's still fairly warm around here (in NJ), with temps in the 60s-70s during the day. The nights are a little chilly (around 50) but we've managed by wearing slippers and robes in the morning.

  5. Our goal is December 1st and I hope we make it this year like you did yours.

P.S. We had the air conditioner on all day. It's been on more than past week than the entire summer.

  6. Haha, we didn't make it. 😉 I started turning on the heat last week or the week before since I started waking up in the night freezing, even under the covers.

  7. With global warming running roughshod around the world, I'm surprised more folks aren't blasting the A/C into December. 😉 We'll cut the heat on around the end of October.
