Would You Buy Contact Lenses Online?

Many things have become more affordable to purchase online than with traditional “brick-and-mortar” retail outlets.

Books, music, televisions, and many other electronics or items related to electronics are now routinely purchased online.  The biggest explanation is that online outlets can offer these items at a lower price because they don’t have the overhead of having to operate retail space which to display and store those items, which is a lot more expensive than just the warehouse space that they’d need.

So far the model has worked for many types of products.  As it turns out, prescription eyewear, notably contact lenses, can be purchased online at a significant savings versus purchasing them through your eye care professional.

Many companiesmake it easy these days.  If you have a prescription, they will accept the prescription (you can mail it in or have your doctors office fax it in) and they will process the prescription.  Wait a few days in the mail and you’ll have the exact same contact lenses that you would have gotten had you picked them up in person.

What’s the difference?  Well, they can cost less.  A lot less.

I’ve seen a lot of ads where they are advertised at up to 70% less.

I’m lucky and don’t currently have to wear glasses or contacts, but as I get older, it doesn’t hurt to look around because things like that can change as you get older.

If I do require contact lenses, you had better believe that I’m going to look online for fulfilling my needs.

One thing you want to keep in mind is to make sure you look at a reputable company. Find a company that will turn your order around quickly, ensure your satisfaction, offer low pricing, and ship the products for free.

Have you had success with ordering contact lenses online?  If you wear them, would you consider it next time you need new lenses?

  1. I do buy them online. As you said – much, much cheaper (as long as my insurance won’t cover it). As long as your prescription is less than 2 years old, most places will fill it with no problem. And I’ve never had a problem with my order.

  2. Haha, I was just price shopping online contacts for my husband. I’ve never done it before but with the prices I’ve seen it makes sense to me.

  3. I buy them online all the time. I spend around $100 for 8 boxes, and my doctor usually wants 2-3 times that. So, it’s a no brainer for me. Each time I buy them though I wonder why I have not broken down and just had Lasik done.

  4. I love Contact Lens King. They have the brand I wear at the best price, and their customer service is great. I’ve had a couple boxes where a contact had a rip in it, and they sent me a replacement free of charge. Plus I’m a klutz and I rip or lose my lenses a lot, so being able to stock up at a lower price is a huge savings for me.

  5. I probably wouldn’t but that’s just because I have no experience with them. Anything that becomes commoditized and is safe and controlled should be shopped around no doubt.

  6. I haven’t considered buying contact lenses online, but you’ve given me a thought. Will have to seriously find authentic sellers starting with your recommendations here. Thanks.
